The task was to create identity for a music festival with code in Processing — an open source programming language based on Java.

The name “cicadas” came up after recalling connections to summer and its sounds. This identity was intended to look vivid and expressive to harmonize with the flashy music of the bands taking part in the event. To feel the vibes and for better experience turn on the sound on videos.
Festival logo was also made with code from a modular font, wherein some letter parts remind of insect wings.
A special app was coded to generate moving textures from images. With this app you choose one of the images, then strength, direction and four different variants of displacement.
To match high contrast in logo letter shapes Canela Condensed is used as display typeface. Canela is a graceful display typeface that defies many of the traditional classifications. Its forms are in an ambiguous space between sans and serif, both soft and sharp, modern yet with roots in the classical.
